StratiCELL is a skin model manufacturer and a project-driven services provider for in vitro testing, with a particular emphasis on testing of skin care actives and products
Skin Pigmentation
|
Agents acting on skin pigmentation processes can be evaluated by in vitro testing, on primary human melanocytes and on reconstituted human epidermis containing melanocytes. |

In Vitro biological assays for Skin pigmentation / whitening
- Determination of tyrosinase activity.
- Determination of melanin production.
- Fontana-Masson histological staining for evaluation of the melanin production and localization within the epidermis.
- The evaluation of genes involved in the biological response of the skin following sun exposure using the StratiCELL® proprietary thematic TaqMan Array.
Complex melanogenesis process
Skin color is determined by the amount and the type of melanin present into the epidermis.
The synthesis of epidermal melanin is regulated by a complex pathway requiring the concerted action of several enzymes. Melanin pigments are synthesized within the melanosomes. However, tyrosinase is considered to be the rate-limiting enzyme of melanin biosynthesis and represents the major regulatory step in melanogenesis.
