Reconstituted Human Epidermis : RHE – EPI/001
Cells are seeded on polycarbonate filters grown at the air-liquid interface with appropriate cell culture medium, free of animal serum. After two weeks of differentiation, a full epidermis is reconstituted. The StratiCELL® reconstituted epidermis is very similar to human skin in terms of morphology, of differentiation markers and of functional characteristics.
Indeed, StratiCELL® reconstituted human epidermis model consists of a living, epidermal tissue fully stratified and differentiated as demonstrated by the expression profile of keratin 14, keratin 10 and involucrin. StratiCELL® tissues also synthesize inflammatory cytokines (IL-1α and IL8) following the exposure to irritant or sensibilizing agents, respectively.
This model represents a relevant tool for safety and dermato-cosmetic activity testing, for penetration and absorption studies and for providing insights into mechanisms of action of an active or product.
