Epidermal Differentiation

There are no translations available.

The stratum corneum from epidermis provides a physical and permeability barrier, which is continuously regenerated by terminally differentiating keratinocytes. It is formed by the subcellular organization of epidermal proteins and lipids into a two-compartment system with a continuous extracellular lipid matrix surrounding the lipid-depleted, protein-enriched corneocytes.

The StratiCELL reconstituted epidermis undergoes a similar epidermal differentiation process, as in human skin.

Cell proliferation, differentiation and death occur sequentially and each process is characterized by the expression of specific proteins.

In Vitro biological endpoints for Epidermal differentiation

  • Localization and/or quantification of structural proteins involved in the epidermal differentiation, by immuno-fluorescence or immuno-histology, in StratiCELL reconstituted epidermis (K10, filaggrin, loricrin...)
  • Gene expression profiling of key genes involved in epidermal differentiation
